The Venerable Society of Jesus has elected its 29th Superior General, The Most Reverend Padre ADOLFO NICOLÁS, SJ on 19 January of the auspicious year of our Lord 2008. Padre Adolfo was born in Palencia, Spain on 29 April 1936. He entered the Jesuit Novitiate of Aranjuez in Toledo in 15 September 1953 and was ordained in 1967. From 1978-1984, he worked inside the Ateneo, specifically at the East Asian Pastoral Institute (The Blue and White Building behind St. Bellarmine Hall). From 1993-1999, he was Provincial of the Japanese Province. In 2004-2007, he was President of the Jesuit Conference of East Asia and Oceania.
How blessed are we that His Paternity, Most. Rev. Adolfo Nicolas worked in our very campus in the past! Truly, the Ateneo is part of the Jesuit family and truly, it is a Roman Catholic Jesuit University active in the enterprise of the Jesuits.
We pray for the new Superior General and for all the Jesuits in Rome that as they continue discerning, discussing and debating for the future of the Society until the whole month of January, February and some of March, they will only be concerned with one thing: the
salvation of their beneficiaries and students' souls, our souls.
